Increase awareness of childhood cancer.
Incorporate students into raising money for other students who are battling cancer.
Raise money to improve the quality of life for children with cancer and their families.
Designate a contact person from your school, college or university to call our office or e-mail.
Within 7-10 business days, prior to the event, the contact person will receive a Children Are Golden Campaign kit which contains the following:
- Posters to advertise the campaign
- Cans to collect the funds
- Ribbons
- Instructions
- One self addressed envelope for donation(s) & any remaining ribbons.
- Success sheet & photo release
Each group provides gold ribbons to be worn by everyone in exchange for a donation to FCC.
We ask that each school please return the funds and any remaining ribbons within four weeks of receiving the kits. Each ribbon sold will bring awareness to childhood cancer and help FCC to carry out its mission.
How do we raise the money?
Idea #1:
- Have teachers collect money from students in the beginning of class during the week before Children are Golden.
- Mark this on the attendance sheet.
- Distribute the appropriate amount of ribbons to teachers before the day of the event.
- On the day of the event, have teachers pass out ribbons to those students who have donated money.
- Set up tables in entrances, hallways, and lunchrooms.
- Position students or school sponsors at these tables.
- Have these “officers” collect donations and distribute ribbons between classes and during lunch periods.
- Place cans with ribbons in teachers lounges and office areas.
- Leave a note telling them to take a ribbon when they make a donation.
- Collect the cans at the end of the week.
- Hold a penny war! Where each homeroom competes to raise the most money.
- Every penny or dollar bill is a positive addition while every silver coin is a deduction
- The homeroom with the highest amount of positive funds wins.
